SMEPS 10th National and 3rd African Congress

The SMEPS (Société Marocaine de l’Economie des Produits de Santé) hosted its 10th National Congress and 3rd African Congress on Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacoepidemiology from May 30 to June 1, 2024, at the Bourgreg Congress Center in Salé, Morocco. This significant event featured a range of activities, including conferences, roundtables, symposiums, workshops, and communications. The theme of this year’s event was the patient’s voice in healthcare system. This constitutes a big step towards facilitating the discussion about the roles, models, challenges, barriers, enablers of patient engagement. It has also provided a rich database of successful experiences and models of patient empowerment from all over the globe.

The first day of the congress, May 30, was dedicated to workshops, focusing on the benefits of empowering patient organizations and patient associations. This day emphasized the importance of patient advocacy and support within the healthcare ecosystem.

On the second day, May 31, there were different varied presentations on patient engagement and roles worldwide.  Ikram Eseghir, President of the NADB-BC2 Association, gave an oral presentation titled “Facilitators and barriers to integrating patient voice in decision-making.” Her speech provided valuable insights into the challenges and enablers of patient enagagement in the field of cancer care, particularly in the Moroccan context.

The final day of the event, June 1, was marked by roundtable discussions and sessions, bringing together national and international experts and stakeholders to deliberate on various aspects of pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology.  Prizes were also given to winning poster presentations of young researchers in recognition of their efforts to advance research and science.
