NABD-BC2 Participation in the WHO Event: Co-creating Priorities for Cancer 2030
September 16 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
On September 16, 2024, NABD-BC2 participated in a significant WHO event at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, focused on co-creating priorities for cancer care. This gathering aimed to draft a joint statement by bringing together individuals affected by cancer and emergent leaders.
The WHO’s global campaign, launched in 2022, seeks to amplify the voices of those affected by cancer as part of its framework for meaningful engagement of people living with non-communicable diseases (PLWNCDs). This initiative emphasizes the importance of inclusive, people-centered policies and health services that cater to the needs of communities affected by cancer.
Prior to the main event, committee sessions were organized online, allowing participants, including NABD-BC2 represented by the president Ms. Ikram Eseghir, to work collaboratively on topics and draft position papers. These papers were later finalized during the event in Geneva, where participants voted on them.
In addition to submitting a position paper on the theme, Working Group 2 (WG2), of which NABD-BC2 was a member, proposed edits to the definitions of “lived experience” and “meaningful engagement.” It was emphasized that this important work should continue, with virtual meetings planned for further collaboration and follow-up.
The discussions of Working Group 2 centered on the topic: “What should WHO be doing to create an enabling environment for meaningful engagement with people affected by cancer?” This dialogue emphasized the need for inclusive, people-centered policies that prioritize the experiences of those affected by cancer.
NABD-BC2 remains dedicated to advocating for effective cancer care policies, amplifying PWLE voices, in partnership with WHO and other stakeholders.
NABD-BC2; let your voice be heard!
